Clemens Spieltiere GmbH is a German soft toy brand with a history of more than 75 years. After World War II, materials for producing soft toys were scarce. To keep bringing joy to children, the company began crafting teddy bears from repurposed military blankets — transforming remnants of war into symbols of warmth and comfort.
Inspired by this legacy, we suggested to our client the idea of recreating the legendary teddy bear using discarded army blankets — and taking it a step further by incorporating other waste materials. In an era of fast fashion and a growing global population, the amount of discarded clothing ending up in landfills has become a serious environmental issue. To remind, engage, and act together, we proposed creating unique and lovable teddy bears made from upcycled materials.
Here is how it works:
We are working with Korean army bases to collect old military blankets and sourcing waste clothing in Vietnam at incredibly low cost. After thorough cleaning and disinfection, these materials become part of our Material Library. We then disassemble them into pieces suitable for soft toy production, and our designers carefully select each fabric and detail to craft one-of-a-kind teddy bears.
Each piece is unique. Each piece carries history. And each piece is made for the Earth.
